Comparing CorsPaint and Precision Paint Experts

Cabinet painting is closer to furniture finishing than wall painting. Here's what to look for when you compare two cabinet refinishing quotes.

Weighing a CorsPaint alternative for kitchen cabinets

CorsPaint comes up as a comparison for some North Central Florida homeowners who are also talking with Precision Paint Experts. We don't assess other businesses. We do want to help you compare one of the most detail-heavy jobs in residential painting: a cabinet refinishing bid.

Kitchen cabinets get grabbed, bumped, wiped and splashed every day. A finish that looks perfect at handoff can chip at the edges within months if the surface wasn't cleaned and scuffed properly or the coating wasn't designed for that kind of wear. That's why the process written into each quote matters more than usual.

Process steps every cabinet quote should cover

Ask each contractor to walk you through these steps in order. If two quotes differ widely in price, the difference often sits in one of these lines.

Spraying setup is worth a separate question. Doors may be finished in a dedicated area away from the house, or in a temporary booth on site. Either can work; what matters in a kitchen cabinet painting quote is that the boxes, counters, appliances and floors are sealed off from overspray and dust.

  • Removing doors, drawer fronts and hardware, and labeling them for reinstallation
  • Degreasing — kitchen grease is invisible and ruins adhesion
  • Scuff sanding or deglossing existing finishes
  • Filling dings, open grain or old hardware holes if you're changing pulls
  • A bonding primer suited to the existing finish
  • Topcoat type and number of coats
  • Where doors are sprayed or finished, and how boxes are protected on site

Coatings and cure time

Wall paint isn't built for cabinets. Most professionals use a hard-drying enamel; a waterborne urethane enamel is one common category because it levels well and resists blocking and scuffs once cured. Compare what each bid names, and ask how long the finish needs before doors can be rehung and before normal use.

Drying and curing aren't the same. A door can feel dry in hours and still be soft enough to mark for days. A clear bid explains when you can use the kitchen, when you can close doors fully and when you can scrub the surfaces.

How Precision Paint Experts handles cabinet work

We finish cabinets, doors and rails with waterborne urethane enamels, and our written, itemized estimate lists prep, priming, coats and hardware handling separately so you can compare apples to apples. Low-odor options are available, which helps when the kitchen sits at the center of the house.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will painted cabinets show the wood grain?

Oak and other open-grain woods usually show texture through paint unless the grain is filled first. Ask each bidder whether grain filling is included or optional.

Can I keep using my kitchen while cabinets are being painted?

Often partly, especially if doors are finished away from the boxes. Ask each contractor which days the kitchen will be limited and what needs to be emptied.

Should I replace hardware at the same time?

It's a good moment to do it. If new pulls use different hole spacing, the old holes need filling before paint, so tell every bidder up front.

What should I verify before choosing a cabinet painter?

Check the license through Florida DBPR's online lookup, get a certificate of insurance, and ask to see the written process. Our free estimate includes each step.
